Remove Capital Police From Florida Resolution

8/29/2023

Republican Liberty Caucus of St. John’s County Resolution

Resolution Requesting Governor DeSantis to Remove the United State Capitol Police from Hillsborough County and All of the State of Florida

Whereas, on July 6, 2021 press releases from our Capitol in Washington, D.C. advised that the U.S. Capitol Police in the wake of the Jan. 6, 2021 event were announcing their plans to open their own federal operational office in Hillsborough County.

Whereas, the Capitol Police as of this date, over one year and seven months later, still operate this office and without the lawful consent from the citizens of Hillsborough County and the state of Florida.

Whereas, the Capitol Police office is specifically upon and within Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office property at 2224 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa FL and that property belongs specifically to those citizens of Hillsborough County and the state of Florida.

Whereas, 2 USC §§ 1961(a) and 1967(a) limits Capitol Police to only operate within the District of Columbia, and or when they are actively protecting an elected federal official and family.

Whereas, this federal agency is operating in Hillsborough County and Florida, while circumventing the authority of our State Constitution, per Article 1, Section 8, Clause 17 of the U.S. Constitution, establishing that the federal government cannot create a presence in the state without the state’s permission.

BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED THAT: The St. Johns County Republican Liberty Caucus respectfully requests the Governor of Florida to remove the Capitol Police Office from our state by any and all lawful means.

Considered, debated, and approved by the St. Johns County Republican Liberty Caucus on August 29, 2023 in St. Augustine, Florida in accordance with the Constitution and by-laws of said body.

Resolution adopted by a vote meeting the requisite number of those present and eligible to vote by the St. Johns County Republican Liberty Caucus as evidenced by the signatures of the Chair and Vice Chair of the St. Johns County Republican Liberty Caucus.
